Story Behind the Book
Health is a great blessing of Allah. The Prophet (PBUH) himself used medicine as needed and from time to time he also told his Companions about the spiritual and medical treatment of various ailments. Today his treatments have been included in various medicine books.
يَا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ تَدَاوَوْا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَضَعْ دَاءً إِلاَّ وَضَعَ لَهُ شِفَاءً
“O servants of Allah! Use remedies. For indeed Allah did not make a disease but He made a cure for it.”
(الترمذي: 2038)
In addition to medicinal healing we also have spiritual healing for example Allah has called the recitation of Quran as healing. There was a need to combine the two treatments into a single medicine book so that everyone could have access to all kinds of simple treatments. This work Tib-e-Nabvi was compiled by Imam Ibn Qayyim رحمه الله in the eighth century AH with the Arabic title “الطب النبوي”.
